Pages of Yore

Dear You,

Torn between risking and leaving
You put my book on trial
Flipping pages of torn and tan at your fingertips
Every sheet unravelled by your eyes

It wrenched my guts to see
It pinched my nerves to feel
The memories, the people
And me in the pages of yore

How do you come and watch it all hurt?
How do you let it be and live without a hint?
How do you bring a pang of yesterday?
How do you make it prick like forever?

I wonder but somewhere along the throes
I’ve never felt so alive again
The memories, the people
And I’m in the pages of yore

Days have passed. Weeks and months too.
Somewhere between the lines
Heart strings clutched like forever
And it was too much to hold in

Is it worth the try? Is it worth the fight?
To bring it all back, to face a twinge from
The memories, the people
And me in the pages of yore

Love,

Aubrey
