Third Option: The Science of Faith

We will all eventually get to that point. When something so beautiful, suddenly blows on our face, and then we are caught in a pain we didn’t plan on happening. It can be an almost “us”, that failed, after endless nights of chatting. A friendship that ended in quarrel, when you thought you had it good. A break up of a beautiful relationship, in the most unexpected moment. It can be infidelity, etc. There are numerous things that can send us to a paralyzing anguish, that even sent the Son of God to His knees.

Of course we will pray. We will have our questions and doubts. We go to friends to vent out. We pray and ask God, “Lord I will obey, tell me what to do to fix this”. It’s in this moment of pain, that we feel lost, we ask counsel or help from our leaders, from our friends, from people who know the situation, from people who had gone before you in the situation.

It’s in these moments, you will be left with two options that human counsel gives: 1. Do something about it if it’s really important. 2. This is hopeless, turn your back from it, the pain will eventually stop.

Although will never be able to deny the reality of the pain. Every waking moment, when you feel it, you choose between the two options, just so you can end the anguish as soon as possible. Oh, you will ask for signs. “God show me this and I will do option one” or “God tell me that, then i will choose option two.”

But what if I tell you, there actually is a THIRD OPTION.

That is, to let God be God.

When you let God be God, most often, He will tell you to let go, and let Him handle it. That no, the answer is not what you imagined it to be between option 1 and 2. Yes, it will be a dark place, you will feel lost, but remember how God surrounded Abraham himself with darkness on the day He made the promise to him. And, God is only ever asking for one thing: FAITH.

Even faith, like matter, has to exist in space-time in order to really prove it exists. Matters need space, to answer the question, where is it placed? It needs time, to answer the question, when did it exist to happen? For our faith to be proved real needs space, which is our difficult circumstance, to answer the question, where does faith happen? And the most difficult part actually is, time. Because God wants to see, when did or does your faith happen? This is the science of faith.

It will never be easy. There will be times when you can barely breathe because of the pain. Your feelings will be in conflict with your faith, but it is during those conflicts that we have our marked moments. Remember when Jesus was holding His cup of anguish due to His imminent death? He was praying to God to take it away. He was also contemplating between option 1 and 2. But then He surrenders and says, “Yet not as I will but as You will.”

Not as we will, but as God will.

Much happens when we let God be God. We need to allow His word to soak in us, and to govern us during these trying times. We all have our own unique circumstances, and it’s His grace that will lead us through, and will allow us to make the next steps, one by one, until we get to what He had prepared for us in the first place. Those steps may mean, you need to be graceful to that person. It may mean you need to stop a habit. Maybe He just wants you to worship Him anywhere, anytime. His guidance happens whenever we surrender. God is so good, not to disregard what is in your heart, but always keep in mind that what He has is way better than the suggestions we gave whenever we prayed. He is just that good. Just let your faith exist in its space-time, and let Him be God.
