Seasons, as defined, is the division of the year often characterized or marked by changes in weather, ecology or amount of daylight we receive annually. But, have you ever noticed or observed that even though they happen every year, each season yields a different result than the previous one? Summer is not hot as it was last year or maybe the amount of precipitation is much lower than it was the other year. It’s the same season but leads to different effects, results and the circumstances vary almost every year.
What does this teach us? How can these things possibly relate to us as individuals? The answer is quite simple, it’s that it’s okay to undergo different phases, it’s acceptable and valid to go under different seasons. Our initial thought when we hear these words are somehow the inverse of what it really is supposed to mean. Phases and seasons are a manifestation that you are progressing towards your destination.
Even the world that we’re living in has to go through that process. The chances of encountering the same problems we have faced and surpassed are high, but the fruit it produces when you re-encounter and defeat it is different than the first time we engaged with it. The problem is that sometimes when we are going through seasons is that we want it to end fast and quickly, if we ever had a cheat code we’d eventually press the end season button. We are afraid of the thought that we are being left behind, but as a matter of fact, going through seasons is not a race: it’s about moving further and farther. Hastening things up won’t guarantee immediate victory and success, so slow things down, take a breath, then progress.
Going through seasons is truly a test of patience and discipline, it’s a seesaw battle between yourself about which way are you going to take. There are no shortcuts to growth, and a lot of “waiting” will occur along your journey towards growth, even summer needs to wait until spring has concluded its phase. Going through seasons teaches us about a lot of things, the most powerful one it can teach us is that your time will come soon, your season is different from theirs. Unload the burdens you are carrying by comparing your strides, you have your own race and season so don’t run the race marked out for them, but stay in your own lane and keep running at your own pace. Everything will fall in its place just be patient for when the time is right, He will make it happen (Isaiah 60:22).
