A Beautiful Detour

Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea

When God brought Israel out of Egypt, He led them into the wilderness to purify, sanctify, and teach them the way they should go. In life, God allows detours before reaching the final destination to shape character and prepare individuals to become good stewards. People can also be seen as detours. There are people who come for a reason, for a season, and for a lifetime. Not everyone who enters our lives will stay with us forever, but they will surely leave us valuable lessons that help us grow and mature.

From the start of this journey, it has been well-guided by the Word of God. I walked with peace and confidence in the Lord, knowing that whatever happens, He is in control. I was aggressive and intentional because my motivation was solely the Word that God gave me. I have no regrets, even if the end does not happen my way but in God’s way. Events unfolded in their season and for a specific reason. Indeed, what is truly important is not the outcome but becoming the person that God wants me to be.

The last time we talked face to face, it didn’t end well. I have words for you that I want to share, but I don’t think I will have the opportunity to tell you personally. If given a chance, here’s what I want to say:

“I love you.” You have awakened the heart that was asleep for a while. I pursued you and gave my best efforts as if you were the one. My eyes were captivated and began to sparkle. Though it was brief and swift, you brought a smile to my face because, to me, you are special. When I saw your smile, I longed to see it for a lifetime. However, God had other plans and redirected the joy of my life. In acknowledging this, I find solace in the understanding that His plans are greater than mine.

“Thank you.” I am deeply grateful that you entered my life. I will cherish all the wonderful memories we created together. I am content with the lessons God has taught us during this season. Thank you for letting me catch a glimpse of the beautiful person you are. Even though I may not have experienced every aspect of you, you still represented the best part of my last year.

“I’m sorry.” I sincerely apologize for disrupting your solitude. I understand the importance of personal space and quiet moments, and I regret interrupting that. If I spoiled your peaceful time, please accept my apology. I promise not to bother you anymore.

In the chapters of our shared journey, you have been a beautiful detour—a surprising and wonderful addition to my life’s adventure. While you may not be my final destination, I appreciate the unique and pleasant moments you’ve brought into my story. Though our paths may not align as I initially imagined, I embrace the uniqueness you added to my narrative. Reflecting on our encounters, I find gratitude in the unexpected beauty you brought into my life. I’m thankful for it all. As this chapter ends, I’m ready for the next one, understanding that everything happened for a reason. Our story is special, and I cherish every part of it. If we meet again in the future, I hope for a different result, or perhaps a new character will come into my life.
