Before Spring Returns

Was it just yesterday
When you said,
“You’re going to be okay.”
And I knew
You were wrong,
so I decided to move on.

Summer seemed
So long ago
So very far away, and, oh –
You were just
A breath away
Now, a year ago and a day.

I wish we kissed
Under the autumn rain
Instead, I was soaked in pain
As leaves fell silently,
I still wondered,
“How is thee?”

Winter, then, chased
Chilling each night
The moon wasn’t so bright
Days were spent at home
So lonely,
Oh, so lonesome.

Coldness soon left
The frozen heart
Hope gave way to another start
Let me now forget
How love burns
Before spring returns.
