How is your heart?
Is your heart clouded by disappointments, pressures, worries, fears, and anxieties? Is your heart clouded by success, excitement, fulfillment, and happiness? Or do boredom, numbness, and emptiness cloud your heart?
Maybe some of us are at the pinnacle of our success—making the most of our time, achieving our goals, helping others, cultivating positive connections, and experiencing the rewards of life. Perhaps some of us are attempting to endure the valleys of life while grieving over failed relationships, unfulfilled expectations, and broken promises. Or maybe some of us are simply making it through the routine of life, looking for happiness but failing to find it, looking for connections but ultimately coming up empty and broken.
A good mentor told me it’s vital to do a heart check. It’s like getting out all that’s inside of your heart.
So I began peeling them off one by one, and like the majority of us, I found all the beautiful things in my heart—my career, my family, my ministry, and everything else I knew to be good. I’m trying to be a good person and the right person so when the right one comes, I’m ready.
But I also encountered my fears, worries, and doubts, which made me wonder if I would finish my life strong.
But is that all life is? I wonder.
Are we supposed to live a life like that?
Are we supposed to enjoy and suffer?
The wisest king who lives on earth, King Solomon said All is Vanity, there is no remembrance of former things, nor will there be any remembrance of later things yet to be among those who come after. – Ecclesiastes 1:1
When we were a kid, we were so excited to become an adult. When we became adults, we were excited to be married, when were married we were excited to build a home for our family. When we became old, we just wanted to live a longer life.
It’s all nice, and there’s nothing wrong with trying to live a good life, but I wonder if this is really all there is to life. What constitutes “good enough”?
You know what, as I was getting my heart checked, I understood that there is more to life. It is not the finest life if all I do is please myself and other people. Even worse than I thought, I am nothing. I am nobody. I am a mess without Him.
A good author said, ”I am still dumb enough to forget that life is all about God and not about me at all. We have only our two-fifths-of-a-second-long scene to live.”
Life is fleeting, you never know what tomorrow holds. You never imagined ten years ago that this is exactly what will be your life today, right? We’re all passersby in this world and life is not all about us. The reason why we’re here is to live for the ONE who made all of this together.
JESUS is the ONE.
He is the first, He is in between and He is in the end. He holds things altogether. He knows us specifically and He gives us purpose so we can glorify His name. There’s no other way to live in this world if we aren’t living for HIM alone. We won’t find true success, fulfillment in life, and beautiful relationships with others if we don’t know Him and if we don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. All of us are broken and we’re in dire need of HIM.
And God is great, just, and loving. He can meet you at the corner with your worries, fears, weaknesses, doubts, insecurities, and unbelief. Seek Him with all your heart and let Jesus be your everything.
I am just like you, who is still amazed by His love for me. I couldn’t comprehend His majesty and goodness. I couldn’t afford what He has done in my life but it’s His grace that enables me to know Him more.
Choose Jesus not tomorrow or when you’re ready.
Choose Him today.
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth,
before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”— Ecclesiastes 12:1
