Story of Soulmates in Islam

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) Saying:

Souls are troops collected together and those who familiarised with each other (in the heaven from where these come) would have affinity, with one another (in the world) and those amongst them who opposed each other (in the Heaven) would also be divergent (in the world).

Love at First Sight is True but our True First Sight of that special someone happened in a place before time, a moment of eternity

Love’s story begins in eternity, in the realm of souls. What we are experiencing in this world is simply the continuation—the second chapter. As a result, we don’t really fall in love. We are simply rekindling the ancient flame that was lit eons ago. Love blossoms from this ethereal nostalgia, like the reunion of two best friends after a lifetime apart.
The Qur’an mentions it: (We created you in pairs) [78:8].
“Souls are like an arranged unit, drawing closer to what they recognize,” a Prophetic narration says.

We find scriptural support for the concept of ‘Soulmates’ here. Rumi and Shams, Qays and Layla, Ranjha and Heer were all soul mates. For they knew each other before they were born, and they shared an unbreakable bond that transcended time and space.
This is why some people are inexplicably, even irrationally, drawn to others. They hope and pray that this soul will be ‘their pair,’ the one to calm the relentless vortex that rages within.
“Perhaps they will make sense of my complex inner universe?
My pair, who’ll know my thoughts and emotions without me speaking, who’ll bring calm to my inner turmoil that I so carefully hide from the world,” they wonder.

They recall the spiritual realm communion with their soulmate—the nostalgia kicks in—and the sweet memories of those’silent conversations’ begin to stir the soul. The agitation grows. Bubbling. Simmering. Until it can’t be contained any longer.
“I have to find my soulmate at any cost,” we say. Beyond what can be seen, a part of us intuitively senses that there is someone out there who truly recognizes our spirit. Someone we knew a long time ago.
Maybe, just maybe, the one soul who knows us better than we know ourselves.
And so the eternal love story continues.
