I believe that some of our sufferings are merely the result of our own decisions. But as humans, we tend to escape our responsibilities. We find it much easier to sweeten the situation rather than accept that we are where we are because we are the ones at fault. I have realized that when we choose poorly, we don’t get to pin it on the Lord’s ongoing work in our lives. We don’t get to say, “I am hurting because the Lord has a purpose for this pain.” or “I am hurting because the Lord is doing something here.”, instead we should own up to our mistakes and say, “I am hurting because of the consequences of my actions.”. And the thing with holding yourself accountable is that you can now fully surrender these pains unto Him and watch Him do something beautiful with it.
